Every farmer, hobbyist, garden enthusiast knows that January is the most wonderful time of the year. Since mid-December seed catalogs have been arriving in the mail and online sources have been updating their selection for the 2019 gardening season.
I love sitting in front of the fire on a cold January day(s) making my list and checking it twice. I will have previously organized my current seeds and noted what I need or definitely don't need. Callie and I have packaged up the seeds we saved from our gardens the previous summer, some to replant and some to boost the inventory on Callie's market table. And with this in mind I start to scour the catalogs looking for the best organic and heirloom seed for a short unpredictable growing season.
Some of my favorites are Stellar Seed, Salt Spring Seed Company, West Coast Seed, High Mowing Seed. I look forward to receiving my seeds by the end of January and getting plants going under lights in the house by February.
